Description
After more than 60 years of collecting coins it is time to move my collections along. I have always loved large copper coins and early tokens and here is a nice one - 1832 Nova Scotia half penny token (reference KM1, BR871, CH125b). This one weighs 8.3g, is 28mm in diameter, and is 1.7mm thick. On the obverse is a bust of George IV and on the reverse is a thistle with legend. Due to the shortage of government issued “small change” coins for every day use in the colonies, private mints issued “coppers” and tokens” which were locally accepted. In 1817, Nova Scotia outlawed further use of private tokens and asked the British government for permission to strike copper coins. So, while listed as tokens, those issued after 1817 were officially authorized by the British government. As everything needs to find a new home, I will list this one at a good price and offer FREE SHIPPING to within the US.
