This is an antique diamond, cameo and 14K white gold unique shape brooch measuring 1 3/4 inches (46.1 MM) long by 1 3/8 inches (36.8 MM) wide with a hinged bail, enabling it to also be worn as a pendant. As early as 1805, craftsmen began using shell for cameos because it was easily carved due to its many layers, as compared to onyx or agate. Designs throughout history include many subjects. But, the most common of all is that of a noble Romanesque maiden with classic features, Roman dress, jewelry and intricately, often floral embellished hair. This stunning, hand carved shell cameo features a profile of a noble woman with crisp and distinct details evident in her hair, dress, floral embellishment and facial features. She wears a necklace, prong set with a natural, genuine, untreated, round, faceted .05CT single cut diamond of L color and I1 clarity. The diamond is chipped on the bottom/pavilion which is not easily seen by the naked eye and is mentioned for accuracy. The six sided cameo is expertly bezel set in the ornate filigree frame and has no chips or cracks when held to light. The brooch has a pin back with a secure lock and is marked, tested and guaranteed 14K. It has been professionally cleaned and brightly polished and weighs 9.1 grams. 26156
